GSF Athlete smashes World Record

GSF Athlete smashes World Record

On Monday 19th January GLL, alongside local mental health social prescriber and GSF athlete Alex Goulding hosted a truly inspirational event at Robinsons Pool and Fitness.

The overall aim of the event was fivefold:
- Bring together a wide variety of local mental health organisations to network
- Raise awareness of the impact that sport/physical activity has on mental health
- Allow the various groups to update those in attendance of their work
- Promote the GSF application window and Healthwise
- Watch Alex Goulding attempt a live Guiness World Record attempt for the most plyometric press-ups achieved in 1 minute (which stood at 11)

Present from GLL were:
- Community Sports Manager - Aaron Colbert
- Healthwise Coordinator - Aisleen McCaul
- Robinsons Pool and Fitness General Manager - Darren Baker
- Robinsons Pool and Fitness Assistant Manager - Joanna Wojciechowska
- Robinsons Pool and Fitness Fitness Manager - Piotr Lis

There was also some important local Better partners including:
- Chief Executive of Bedfordshire Rural Communities  Charity - Cliff Andrews
- Founder/Director of HAWAA Empower - Shapna Khanum
There were many key local/national organisations present:

- Mind
- Guinness World Records
- 2 local schools
- Bedford Today (newspaper)
- Bedford Adult Community  Mental Health Team
- Bedfordshire Mental Health Alliance
Undoubtedly the highlight of the event was the live world record attempt by Alex. As mentioned, the previous World Record for plyo-metric press ups was 11 in one minute. The 60 people in attendance were all in amazement as they watched an incredible example of power, strength and resilience. After his attempt was over, the team from Guinness left the room to finalise the number of completed reps Alex was able to achieve. After a nervous 5 minute wait and the team from Guiness were able to confirm that Alex completed 19 reps and therefore beat the world record by some distance!

As a GSF athlete and very active supporter/promoter we are all very proud of his achievement!
