Athlete in the Spotlight - Success Eduan

GSF Manchester athlete Success Eduan - Athletics

Success has won multiple indoor and outdoor England National Championships across U17 and U20 categories. Success has proudly represented Great Britain at various international events, including the Loughborough International, Manchester International, the 2022 World U20 Championships in Colombia, and the 2021 European U20 Championships in Estonia. At the European U20 Championships, Success achieved a bronze medal in the 200m at just 16 years old, the youngest in the field, and anchored the relay team to win gold.

In 2023, Success had the incredible experience of winning the British Indoor Senior Championships as an U20 athlete. "Competing in front of such a large crowd and managing the pressure was overwhelming, but I loved every moment of it. That same year, I was honored to represent Great Britain at the U20 European Championships in Jerusalem, where I won a bronze medal in the 200m and a silver medal in the 4x100m relay. To qualify, I had to win the trials in Chelmsford, which secured my automatic selection. These international experiences have been invaluable, teaching me how to handle pressure, adapt to different climates, manage time zone changes, and navigate unfamiliar foods and languages.

Two moments particularly stand out in my career so far. The first was winning the British Indoor Championships in 2023, overcoming a challenging period in my life just two months prior, during which an unexpected and life-changing event tested my resilience. The second was earning my first Great Britain vest at the Loughborough International in 2021, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic. Competing in the 100m—a distance I hadn’t specialised in—I was the youngest in the field but won the race against more experienced international athletes. Looking ahead, my focus for the upcoming season is qualifying for the U23 European Championships in Norway. I also aim to consistently improve my 100m and 200m times, with the ultimate goal of breaking into the senior ranks."

Success aspires to become an Olympian one day, with her sights set on LA 2028. "My goal is not only to represent but to compete at the highest level. I also hope to inspire young athletes, showing them that no matter what challenges they face, they can rise above and succeed. Beyond my athletic pursuits, the future is still unfolding. Currently, I am in my second year of a three-year midwifery degree. After my time in sports, I am excited to pursue a career as a midwife, as it is a field I am deeply passionate about.

"The GLL Sports Foundation has supported me in many different ways, from providing me free access to my training centre where I train 4 times a week, and also allowing me to get access to centres local to me for some aqua jogging sessions, swimming, the gym, and some yoga & pilates which are part of my recovery days. GLL has also supported me with physiotherapy expenses which is essential for my performance in training and competition as it aids injury prevention. GLL has supported me over the years, and it has been immense. Additionally, their backing has boosted my confidence, knowing that an organisation believes in my potential and is invested in my future as an athlete. This support has not only helped me progress as an athlete but also inspired me to strive harder and give back by motivating others on similar paths."

We look forward to following Success's journey!
